In a concerted effort to empower the spice value chain in Kegalle district, 49 participants, including farmers and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSEMs), underwent specialized training focused on Sulfur fumigation and value-added production. This initiative, facilitated by the Peoples Development Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Export Agriculture and the National Cinnamon Research Station and Training Center-Matale, aimed to enhance knowledge and skills in several thematic areas crucial to the spice industry.
Participants were equipped with advanced techniques in Sulfur fumigation, ensuring compliance with international standards and enhancing product quality and marketability. Additionally, the training emphasized value-added production methods such as processing, packaging, and quality control measures with special reference to Cinnamon and Pepper production. This holistic approach not only aimed to improve productivity and profitability but also to promote sustainable practices and market competitiveness among spice growers and MSEMs in the region.
The partnership between these organizations underscored a commitment to capacity building and fostering innovation within the spice sector.
