With four children and a sick husband to care for, Gnanawathie dared to dream, launching a milk-selling business in a village where such ventures were unheard of.
Thanks to the support from DevPro and Oxfam, she received: chaff cutter for efficient feed processing, milk cans for hygienic storage and transport, hands-on training in animal husbandry, financial literacy & business management and gender empowerment workshops to thrive in a male-dominated field
Today, Gnanawathi supplies milk directly to supermarkets, earning LKR 60,000/month with 4 cows producing 23 litres daily. She’s now planning to expand her herd and dive into value-added products like milk toffee!
