As part of the 𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 implemented by Chrysalis, DevPro is continuing to support livestock sector development through 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 (𝐅𝐅𝐁𝐒) – 𝐃𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐚, 𝐇𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐚. The ongoing training focuses on practical farm management, improved productivity, reducing production costs, climate-smart dairy practices, animal health and nutrition, and stronger market engagement.
But strengthening dairy livelihoods goes beyond training at farm level. It requires connecting:
• Farmer-level knowledge and skills
• Stronger and more inclusive Producer Groups
• Technical and institutional support
• Private-sector engagement and co-financing opportunities
• Evidence-based livestock policy development
• National-level advocacy for sector development
• Sustainable and resilient livestock livelihoods
DevPro is continuing discussions with the Department of Animal Production & Health (DAPH), the All-Island Dairy Association (AIDA), and other development and private-sector partners, to contribute to livestock sector through wider sector-level initiatives.
The FFBS approach provides an important link between farmers’ practical experiences and the institutional and policy changes needed to strengthen the sector.
By bringing together farmers, government institutions, industry associations, private-sector actors and development partners, we can create stronger pathways for investment, innovation, productivity and sustainable growth in Sri Lanka’s dairy sector.
